Healthy Lifestyle Tips for a Better Body and Mind
The old saying, You are what you eat may sound cliché, but it’s definitely true. By making better food choices, you can gain more control over your health and the way your body looks and feels.

1. Sleep well
Get enough sleep. The average recommended amount of sleep is eight hours per night. When you don't get enough sleep, you are more likely to feel stressed and irritable. You might also have trouble concentrating or making moral decisions, which could make it difficult to do your job well.
If you work nights and need to sleep during the day, be sure to go outside during daylight hours as much as possible. Exposing yourself to natural sunlight can help regulate your circadian rhythm so that when nighttime comes around, your body knows when it should start producing melatonin (the hormone that helps us sleep).
Finally, remember that naps can be just as helpful! A 20-minute nap will refresh the mind just like a full night of sleep would.
2. Cleanse your body
Cleansing your body is a great way to start the new year. Your body has been working hard all year, so it's important to give it some TLC! Cleansing will help you feel better, look better and just function better in general.
Here are five ways you can cleanse your body this winter:
- Drink plenty of water
- Eat more whole foods
- Add an enema or colon cleanse to your regimen
- Engage in detox baths
- Get enough rest
3. Eliminate junk from your life
It is time to change your habits. You don't have to cut out all the foods you love, but it's time to eliminate junk from your life. Junk food has been linked to obesity, high blood pressure, heart disease, diabetes, and many other health problems.
Junk food typically contains a lot of fat and sugar, which can cause serious health issues. Additionally, processed meals are highly unhealthy because they contain carcinogenic preservatives in their production.
Limit your consumption of
processed meats like hot dogs and bacon because they have nitrates and nitrites
added to retain the color of the meat. Eliminate sodas and replace them with
natural fruit juice to keep your skin shining.
4. Start a healthy meal plan
First, have breakfast. Breakfast is both the most important and forgiving meal of the day. By consuming more protein in your diet, such as Greek yogurt or eggs, you can better control your blood sugar levels throughout the day.
You'll have the strength you need to get through the morning thanks to this as well. Another thing to think about is fiber! Because fiber keeps your blood sugar constant, you'll experience longer-lasting satiety. If you can, pack an apple or banana as well- they'll be easy to take with you in case you're in a pinch.
If eating breakfast isn't
possible (say if you're running late), drink a glass of water with some lemon
squeezed into it to hydrate and fill yourself up before heading out the door.
If you have more time, fruit smoothies are another great option. Some of my
favorites include mangoes and bananas blended together with almond milk and a
scoop of peanut butter for protein.
Roughly three hours after breakfast is lunchtime, so load up on vegetables during this period to get your body ready for what's coming next - dinner! You want to eat veggies that are high in calcium such as broccoli or kale because calcium helps build strong bones.
Stay away from heavy foods at this point because you want your stomach to be
nice and empty for dinner so you can digest easily. Dinner should focus on
meat, poultry, or fish paired with healthy fats such as avocados, olives, nuts,
seeds, etc., which all contain Omega 3s that will improve heart health and
brain function.
5. Exercise
Exercising is the best way to make sure you're getting the physical activity you need. Aim for 150 minutes of moderate-intensity exercise or 75 minutes of vigorous-intensity exercise each week. Activities like walking, running, swimming, biking, dancing, gardening, or any other strenuous physical activity will count toward your total.
6. Manage Stress
Recognizing your primary stressors is the first step in reducing stress. Numerous factors, such as interpersonal difficulties and professional pressure, can cause anxiety. Once you've identified your stresses, make an effort to reduce them as much as you can.
For example, if you know that every time you take on new projects at work, it stresses you out, consider taking on less or starting a side business to keep yourself busy outside of work hours. If you find that lack of sleep makes you stressed, go to bed earlier each night.
If your partner's actions cause you
anxiety, communicate with him or her about how they make you feel. Doing these
things might not be easy at first but will ultimately make your life easier
down the line.
7. Practice Yoga / Meditation
Practicing yoga or meditation can help one achieve balance in life. A good way to start is by setting aside some time each day, preferably first thing in the morning, to do both. Yoga is great for increasing flexibility and overall strength while meditation can help reduce stress levels.
8. Live in the moment
Living your life rather than just letting it happen is the most important thing. Being conscious of your dietary decisions is one approach to promoting mindfulness. You should taste every food attentively and pay attention to how it makes you feel before consuming it.
Each meal should be taken slowly as well. Never forget that whether you choose
to live your life wisely or not, every decision you make will have an effect on
it.
